I've been tagged by Michelle and Leana to give six random facts about myself.
I have done this once or twice before and to be honest with you, I'm only so interesting. So I was wondering what fun things I could share when I realized I could incorporate my "fun with photos" theme this month and answer in embarrassing pictures. Good times for everyone!
1. I lived in Wonder Woman Underoos for about 3 years. My best friend Jackie had the same pair and we often wore them together while reenacting scenes from Grease.
2. I have two older brothers. They are half-brothers from both of my parent's previous marriages. I am the only child from my parents together but since they both had custody of their boys, we all grew up in one house. Therefore, I never thought of them as half-brothers.
3. The only other sport besides running I ever participated in was horseback riding. I rode from the ages of 11-14 (when I dicovered boys and found better ways to spend my time). I started out riding Western, then switched to English and did a little bit of show jumping and barrel racing as well. Here I am on my horse Joker.
4. This is what i looked like in the 10th grade. I am smoking in the girls bathroom and have chains from Home Depot safety-pinned to my wrist. I think the hairspray may have clouded my better judgement.
5. Before I went back to school for Graphic Design at the age of 28, I worked as a bartender for 10 years.
6. As you can see in this picture (and the two pictures before this one) I used to smoke. I actually smoked for 16 years. I started when I was 14 (one year before the bathroom/hairspray picture) and quit the weekend I graduated from art school when I was 30. Right after I graduated I started training for my first half marathon (and posting in this blog) and I credit marathon training for making it easier to quit. I really don't think I would have done it without serious running to motivate me.
There you have it. I am supposed to tag 10 other people but a lot of you have been tagged already, so I'll leave it up to you to play along. I love ALL of your blogs, so I would love to hear from all of you!
P.S. Good luck to all you racers this weekend!! Can't wait to read those reports!

I always love reading things I didn't know about others. That is so great that you quit smoking, especially after doing it for so long!!!! It must have been hard, but your body is definitely better off for it.
I just LOVE that poofy-hair pic. Reminds me of old times, since you and I are the same age. ;-)
Talk about a healthy turnaround!
16 years of smoking ?? I am glad you gave up that shit and got into running. Its awesome that you are into healthy lifestyle now.
OMG Laurel!!! You are so stinkin cute in the second pic! Olan Mills . .ahhhhh a great many family pics taken there LMAO!
Very interesting tidbits! I love the Olan Mills pic. We always had family portraits done there as well.
You wild thing you! And that was some TALL hair you had :)
ohhh i LOVE those pics :) LOL great idea!
Great pics. That was some killer big poofy hair you sported back in the day. Kudos to you on the sensible changes you have made to your hair and healthy lifestyle.
Oh my gosh - you seriously had a cig in your hand in EVERY pic! I always hid them in pictures (well, mostly).
I think we had the same hair-do back then too. Now I'm motivated to look thru some old photos. Maybe I'll post them.
LOVE the photos Laurel! Seems like running has been a good reason for most of us to do one thing or another...
That is really interesting - I love the baby pics and the growing up pics, haha!! Great job to you for quitting smoking!
I'm a total nerd. I woke up this morning and went to the site. Yesterday I realized the 1/2 sold out. I could still sign up for the full and stop half way. The full will fill up soon. My dr appt isn't till next week, I just don't know what to do! By the time I decide it will be full! hope you had a good long run this weekend! There is this race around 15.5 miles a local running team supports at the end of october down by boathouse row. Nercc I think is the group. They have water stops but basically it is just a long run w/ other people. I did it 2 yrs ago as part of my training.
But the hair is so sexy.. LOL! I lived in those years too..
You are a "wild child."
I feel like singing a rendition of Motley Crue's "Smoking in the boysroom." :)
It's a little weird how similar your life experience is to mine...at least in those six random things.
I rode horses as a kid (also quit when I discovered boys.)
I wore chains and too much makeup in high school.
I quit smoking when I started running.
I really think running is a great way to quit smoking because it forces you to realize the damage the cigs do to your body. You really can't run well when you smoke frequently. Glad it worked for you as well :)
I too had Wonder Woman underoos. Oh, and I had R2-D2 ones too. I loved me some underoos. I wonder if they still make those.
