Winter Blahs?

Doods, there is something seriously wrong with me.

Besides all the normal stuff. I have been totally out of it for the past week.

My fever went away last weekend, but since then I have been exhausted! I haven't run in over a week (not good for someone who is supposed to have a 16-18 mile run on Saturday), I have been super-stressed at work and the cold weather that I normally LOVE to run in, just leaves me wanting to curl on on the couch in my jammies with a bowl of soup. My eyes are REALLY tired and swollen every night when I get home from work and the thought of going in the computer or watching TV makes me cringe.

So, sorry about the lack of posting/commenting. I'll have to pick it up in a few days after I rest. I have ZERO motivation and am just too exhausted when I get home at night to read. I just want to go to bed, which is what I am about to do in a few minutes. Before 10pm!!! Seriously, something is not right.

I have gotten over 8 hours for the past three nights (way more than normal) including all the rest I got last week/weekend when I was sick. But I just can't seem to catch up. This is not sitting well for the Marathon in two months. I essentially have zero training in and most importantly, my heart is so not into it right now. I am seriously thinking about dropping back to the half and just trying to race it (which I think would be a lot of fun actually). We'll see. I think I just need a few more days and a good run under my belt before I make any rash decisions.

So besides being a big, tired, stressed out slob, I do have some good news. I bought a ticket today to go see one of my very best friend's and her 4 month old baby! I have been best friends with Jackie for THIRTY years and I am so excited about meeting her lil peanut. YAY! So I will be leaving in the middle of February for a weekend in warm, sunny Sioux Falls, South Dakota where their winter will kick my winter's ass.

Also, we had a beautiful snowfall a few days ago. We actually got a couple of inches that STUCK! It's been really beautiful. Here is a photo of my running trail. Not while I was running on it though...lazy bones.

Oh yeah, and there was this one guy that became the new President...what was his name?!?! That was pretty awesome too :)

OK, I'm off to sleep for 3 days. I'll catch up with all you nerds later.

Hey hang in there! Everyone gets in funks - hope everything is ok! Focus on the good things that are coming up like the visit to your friend! You have plenty of time to get into your training. Winters are hard when it is actually cold and snowy!! :) hehe.

The virus still may be in your system along with the added stress from work might be causing you to be real tired. Take it easy. I have been in my own funk as well. Feel better.

I'm thinking that once you get the rest you need, you'll be back to your running self. It happens to all of us!

Good idea to take a few more days to try to rest up before making any crazy decisions! I hope you get your groove back soon!

Every now and then your body needs the time off. I couldn't do anything last week and came back totally invigorated yesterday. You'll be back and taking names.

Yikes, I hope you are able to get back to your old self soon! You are still two months away from the marathon, which is still plenty of time. Just make sure you get your rest to be fully recovered before you go at it hard core again.

Just take your time and get better soon, maybe you are suffering from SAD, Seasonal Affective Disorder, I know I suffer from it!

Ha. We are totally in the same place. I just can't find any motivation anywhere. But I am swearing to myself that I will do something this weekend besides sleep. I think.

Good lucking getting your mojo back, seems to be plenty of that going around. And switching to the 1/2 isn't the worst thing in the world either - I demolished my half PR at Philly when I was forced to switch, I'm sure you would smoke yours as well.

I hope you feel better soon! I really have had to force myself to be productive these days. All I want to do anymore is nap.

It's been awhile since you've experienced winter, right? You may be suffering a touch from seasonal affective disorder. The lack of light in the winter, the cold, etc, can really affect a person. You could try light therapy (or even a tanning bed).

Personally, it used to happen to me every winter when I lived in MN, but here in FL, with the extra light, the sunshine and the warmth, I don't experience it.

I was gonna say exactly what the other Jess said above. I lived in your area for over 25 years, and every winter around this time I just lost all motivation/energy/drive. Extra rest, less beer, well planned vacation time and a bit of tanning did the trick.

Hope you're feeling well enough to put in some miles soon! And while you're resting, have a Tastycake (or 5) for me. It's amazing how much I miss those things!

I am so sorry you are still feeling wiped out. Have you been checked for Mono? I knew someone that had it and had the same symptoms. He was a football player and unfortunately he got Mono during football season of his senior year. He felt totally wiped out and just felt like sleeping all the time. I hope you get better soon!

I had that same kind of thing happen to me when I lived in the DC area for a few years; hated going to work in the darkness and coming home in the darkness. So maybe the seasonal issue is at play here. Some extra rest and a short vacation somewhere sunny will help! Go ahead and switch to the half: half the distance and twice the fun!

Bummed to hear you are feeling bummed... but glad to hear you have something exciting to look forward to (SD trip!!). Having something exciting on my planner always helps me get through the bad patches. Now go enjoy that lovely sleep and chin up. xo-T

NERDS?! I'm insulted ;-)

Stop freakin out about the lack of training, the marathon is 2 MONTHS away and you had 2 weeks of sickness, nothing to freak about IMO. But if your heart is not into it then racing the half is a great idea, I'm sure you're going to be super speedy. =)

Hope you feel better soon, we all get the winter blahs. It's going to start real soon for me, when I leave the house and it's dark and I come back from work at night and it's dark again.... yay... stupid winter. ;-)
