Taper Madness (I've self-diagnosed)

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Does maniacally checking weather.com every 5 minutes for Columbus constitute a symptom of "Taper Madness"? Cause if so,

"I got a fever and the only cure is not more cowbell, but more weather.com".

I am sick I tell you.

The weather is getting hotter for Sunday, btw. I was so excited for a 65 degree high and it seems to have crept up to 75. I know I shouldn't be complaining about this. I know I should be happy that it is still the ONE day in the whole week I'm there that isn't calling for rain and that the humidity max is only at 53% (I honestly don't even remember what 53% humidity feels like anymore), but I can't HELP IT! I got the FEVER! FEVER I SAY!!!

Oh, I am also terrified that every step I take will result in a broken ankle, have been getting weird "phantom pains" in my knee and I am completely paranoid about catching the cold that has been sweeping the nation.

I have been really good up until now. People are constantly, "So, are you nervous?" and I could honestly say no and believe it. But today things changed as I feverishly started looking at pictures of Columbus on flickr and checking out the course on google earth (it looks REALLY long).

I know I can do the run, so I am not too worried about that. I guess it's more of the anticipation that is getting me. I feel like a horse shoved in the gate right before the Kentucky Derby. I am restless. I need that gate to swing open!

It sounds like everything you are feeling is totally normal, not that knowing that offers any solace.

I just checked the weather too, because I've got a case of sympathy madness for you...Columbus for Sunday actually looks decent... better than South Florida, that's for sure!

And, the phantom pain, well the pouring rain for the past 12 hours has only made me achier...

You'll do great - can't wait to hear about it next week.

you know i feel your pain girl. 75! last time i checked the high was going to be 65! oh lord. just pack a little bit of everything. better to have it & not need it than need it & not have it. (i have 5 tops packed) - all for varying degress & all with varying gu carrying capabilities. you think you're sick?

the phanotom pains are normal - but they so mess with your head, don't they? i thought you don't get them the second time around. wrong. and there definitley comes that point where you think you should wear a mask to avoid any germs that would bring on the slightest sniffle!

don't worry, that gate will open soon enough! in the meantime, step away from weather.com!!!

I can only imagine how you guys must feel before this big of a race. I have no good advice or help, but just wanted to say that you are going to do great! And even 75 degrees will feel so much better than what you are used to dealing with on a daily basis :)

You need to make yourself a button that says "I'm ready and no, I'm not nervous."

When are you leaving? What else do you all have planned for the trip?

Let's see - last minute advice. Try to just keep busy so you don't over think everything. Try to get alot of sleep before and eat alot and drink tons of water. Don't change anything or try anything new. You will do just fine! How exciting!

I think that pretty much describes everyone who is in the taper. Weather dot com should capitalize on that somehow in an ad. Maybe I should write it for them -- have it featured in RW.

You guys should be happy to know I haven't checked weather.com ONCE today. Although this realization is making me want to check it now...

Taryn: We are leaving on Friday morning and will be gone till next Thursday :) We are just going to hang out and go to all our old favorite places. Plus, we may tailgate (alcohol free of course) at the OSU game on Saturday. Then we reserved a couple of nights at a great B&B. :)

hahahaha this is so normal, to the phantom pain and the neurotic behaviors with the weather! =)

Yep we're having some pretty unusual warm weather again here. Who can tell me they don't believe in global warming?

1 more week!!

Laurel... we're packing up to head to my grandma's (i.e. no internet land) for the weekend. In case I'm not back in time... I'll be thinking and cheering you on Sunday morning! (Do you have your #? Is it like Chicago where we can track you?).

I am so proud of you - you've come such a long way in a year and I'm so lucky I've gotten to tag along! Through all your toughness, determination and hard work you've transformed yourself into an amazing runner! You deserve to have an awesome blast of a marathon!!

(& have a lovely vacation too - I love B&Bs! Oh romance and marathons, what a weekend ahead of you! ;) )
